Tomato and Sausage Risoni

Ingredients:

  • Beef sausages
  • Risoni
  • Tomato passata (is that a tautology?)
  • Onion (half, finely sliced)
  • Capsicum
  • Garlic
  • Rocket
  • Parmesan slivers
  • Oregano (dried, I think it's better than fresh)
  • Salt
Method
  1. Cook sausages and then slice.
  2. Stick garlic bread in 220 degree C oven
  3. Fry onions, garlic and capsicum until soft.
  4. Add oregano
  5. Pour in passata and 4 cups of water, bring to the boil
  6. Dump in risoni
  7. Boil the crap out of it for 10 minutes until risoni is soft.
  8. Serve topped with rocket, Parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil and a couple of bits of garlic bread.

Time to cook: 35 minutes
Cost per serve: $7.50
Inspiration: A 30 minute recipe from taste website.

Rice Cereal

Very exciting night tonight, my 6 month old son had his first "solid" meal. Rice gruel effectively and he was confused by the concept of food you don't drink but he did pretty well just the same. The chicken sausages were very nice, but I put a little much honey in the sauce so it was a little sweet.

Ingredients:
  • Chicken and Fennel sausages (purchased from Nepean Bulk Meats)
  • Honey mustard pan sauce
  • Corn
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrot
Honey Mustard Pan Sauce
  • Juice from cooking sausages, fat drained off.
  • Honey
  • Seeded mustard
  • Salt
Rice Cereal
  • Rice
  • Vitamin C
  • Mineral (iron)
  • Water
Time to prepare: About 15 minutes and 2 minutes
Cost of ingredients: $18 and $1.98
Number of serves: 2 and about 500 at current consumption rates
Recipe inspiration: Very little and What to expect the first year

Restaurant Meal: Terminus Hotel

"Bangers and Beans"

No photos again, I asked at the bar and they said that they didn't allow photos inside the pub? WTF? Anyways, I had a very tasty Kransky sausage on a bed of cannellini beans, tomato and chorizo.

Detectable Ingredients:
  • Kransky sausage (they claimed free-range, but I've never seen a sausage gamboling in a paddock under the bright yellow sun)
  • Cannellini beans
  • Tomato
  • Garlic
  • Chorizo sausage
  • Parsley

Time to prepare: 15 minutes
Cost of meal: $14

Bangers, Mash and Steamed Veg

Bangers, Mash and Steam Veg

Gotta be one of my favourite meals, it's tough to beat the ability to deeply satisfy the precisely balanced combination of fats, carbs and salt. (Fundamentally, lots of all three) The three year old ate roughly the same amount as me (and that's just not a normal event), so I'm guessing he liked it too.

  • Sausages
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Carrot

Mashed Potato
  • Sebago Potatoes
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Nutmeg

Pan Sauce
  • Red wine
  • Salt
  • Beef stock (I used premade low salt)
  • Butter
  • Crunchy bits from sausage cooking

Time to cook: 20 minutes
Cost of ingredients: $10
